Abstract:

Dr. Yong ZHANG majored in Marine Chemistry. He has more than 30 research papers including 11 first-authored ones in peer-viewed journals such as Environmental Science & Technology, Biogeosciences, Journal of Geophysical Research – Oceans, Deep-Sea Research II, Marine Pollution Bulletin, Estuarine, Coastal and Shelf Science. He found that photochemical degradation of DOM is a major source of dissolved CO in the surface layer of St Lawrence estuary system (Canada) and that this process is an important source of dissolved CH4, whose photoproduction rate increases with decreasing concentration of O2. He also investigated the effect of Penglai 19-3 oil spill on the distribution of dissolved CH4 in the Bohai Sea and pointed out that shallow leakage could significantly enhance sea-to-air flux of CH4. Furthermore, he for the first time reported a coupling behavior of seasonal hypoxia and acidification in a mariculture area of the Northern Yellow Sea and verified that optical characteristics of CDOM can be used to identify sources and tempo-spatial variations of DOM and mixing of different end-members when salinity varies little.
